An infection that occurs within the surface of the mucous membranes of the vagina is called bacterial vaginosis or BV. The disease is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria and fungus in the vagina and manifests symptoms such as red swollen vaginal membranes, fish-like foul odor, and an abnormal heavy discharge which appears from a clear consistency to a gray color.
